Festival of Winter Walks

We held a successful Festival of Winter Walks programme. The Group organised 14 walks during the Festival and these were well attended. We held our first Christmas Day walk and 15 people arrived for it. Two of these were new to organised walking and joined the Ramblers. A total of 385 people came out on the 15 walks, an average of 25 on each walk. The highest figure was 36 and the lowest 15.

Annual report 2015 to 2016

Highlights of our year included the three-day stay in Oxfordshire in April hosted by members of the Chinnor U3A, the visit to Highgrove in June and the three one-day coach trips in August. All quickly sold out.

We gained 43 new members over the year, a net gain of 18. Membership is currently 459.

A Chrismas walk on Christmas Day

We had a walk on Christmas Day for the first time. Our publicity officer sent the following press release about it to the Surrey Advertiser and it was published on 6 January 2017.

The appropriately named Alastair Chrismas, a member of the Godalming and Haslemere Ramblers, led a Christmas Day walk on Hankley Common, accompanied by 14 other keen Ramblers. The weather was mild and they completed a six-mile circular walk, finishing shortly after midday, in good time for Christmas lunch.

Godalming and Haslemere Ramblers Group: The Story

The Godalming Ramblers Group was formed in February 1974. George Hyde was the first Chairman, Denis Holmes was the Secretary and John Bryant was the Treasurer. All the committee members were in the 30 to 50 age group with George Hyde the oldest at 58 and there were about 75 members. Two years later in March 1976 the group was merged with the smaller Haslemere Ramblers Group to become the Godalming and Haslemere Ramblers Group, boosting the total to about 100 members.
