There were good views from the top of Sunnydown on this five mile walk. On a clear day they will be superb.
We started from the small car park by The Withies pub in Compton and headed north on Polsted Lane to join a bridleway to the top of Sunnydown by the A31. Turning east we took a footpath that ran alongside the bridleway marked on the map (OS X 145). This was on an open slope overlooking Guildford.
Before reaching Henley Fort we turned south, crossed the bridleway, joined a footpath on the other side and turned west to walk past the masts. Now we had good views to the south.
A footpath on the left took us downhill to the North Downs Way where we turned east to reach Stakescorner Road. We continued south on this to reach a footpath on the right that went past Loseley Park. At Polsted Lane we added an extra section through Bummoor Copse (and nettles) before joining Polsted Lane again, the road back to the car park.
